Different modifications of GEOSERV MEMORY OPEN-HOLE logging tools are available, operating at the maximum downhole temperature of 125°c and pressure of 60 mpa. The integrated self-contained tools have a particular set of geophysical methods, structurally and functionally independent.
Virtually all conventional petrophysical data for horizontal well logging can now be acquired in a cost effective manner on the basis of integrated self-contained downhole tools, drill string tripped. The tools are not complicated in design, and their cost is much lower than the cost of equivalent telesystems with the same geophysical methods.
After well completion, the integrated self-contained tool GEOSERV Memory logging tool is lowered on drilling assembly. As the tool gets bottomhole, the formerly programmed power supply is switched on, measured data are recorded into the self-contained memory unit of downhole tool. Measurements are taken in logging interval while downhole tool is tripping out (in). All movements of downhole assembly with the tool are recorded at the surface and further used for data tie by depth of well.
Self-contained tools measure and record during 19 and 38 hours, depending on modification. This allows geophysical logging in the interval from 200 m up to 3000 m. After downhole tool is tripped out, recorded data are read from memory unit to computer, tying by well depth and transferred to the interpretation office in a digitized form, and then a customer gets his well conclusion.
Such technology allows logging in horizontal wells of any path and of great length, as well as in complicated inclined wells, where cable equipment application is difficult or impossible. The main advantage of integrated geophysical tools is that all geophysical methods are closely connected with each other, geologic profile and well path.
GEOSERV Acoustic Logging tool applies full-wave acoustic tools VAK-90, VAK-73 with long-spaced sondes, recording acoustic vibrations in the frequency band 2÷50 kHz with amplitude variation of 100 dB and more. Owing to long-spaced sondes, in full-waveform logs (VAK) one can steadily identify compressional and shear waves, also Lamb-Stonely wave.
The basic system includes an inclinometer, comprising three orthogonal rigid-fixed accelerometers and three orthogonal rigid-fixed ferroprobes. Moreover, the axes of their fix coincide: one axis is directed along tool axis, the other two are mutually perpendicular to roll axis
The acoustic caliper AP-90 has been developed to measure borehole diameter which, according to speed and acoustic signal propagation time in fluid from downhole tool to borehole wall and back, provides distance measurement in eight directions (per 45° in the circle) to a precision of no more 1 mm.
